DEFRA stoves are approved by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs so you can burn wood in smoke controlled areas. If you live in such an area but still want the warmth and comfort of an open flame, you need a DEFRA-approved stove.
DEFRA stoves are the only stove you can use in Smoke Control Areas (SCA). If your council has designated your street as an SCA, you can still enjoy a real fire as long as you use a DEFRA stove. You could face a £1,000 if your log burner isn’t approved!
