Wood Burners – The Facts!

Are Wood Burners Going to be Banned?

There’s been a lot of news in the media about wood burning stoves, and it’s not all be good press! There are no current proposals to ban the use or new purchased of  log burning stoves, despite what you read!. In 2022 new strict regulations came into force (Ecodesign) for all solid fuel heating appliances which enforced all stoves manufactures to comply with the efficiency and emissions levels set out within Ecodesign regulations.   As a result, all modern wood burning stoves are more efficient and less polluting than ever before and offer a very low carbon, sustainable and renewable way to heat your home.

Wood Burners and Pollution

All wood combustion, including our garden fires, will give off some particles but a modern stove burning the right fuel (e.g. Ready to Burn certified fuel) has very low levels of emissions. Based on independent test results from an accredited laboratory, a modern Ecodesign stove (e.g. a clearSkies certified appliance) will produce up to 90% less emissions than an open fire. The key here though, and why Ready to Burn is so important, is that you have to use the right type of wood to maintain the 90% less emissions. Whilst all stove manufactures have done there part in producing low emission appliances,  there is now an onus on the user to ensure they are burning the right fuel.
